The correct way to repair turbocharged diesel engines

There are many repair procedures for issues related to repairing turbochargers. To make it easier for the user to grasp, Hubei JVH has made some of the specific details and complex procedures as general as possible. The exhaust gas bypass valve boost pressure test is used to determine the value of boost pressure generated under acceleration conditions. Follow the generator manufacturer’s recommended procedure for testing the exhaust gas bypass valve, boost pressure. Typically, the exhaust gas bypass valve control valve can be checked with a vacuum tester. For example, the actuator should start moving at 4 psi and reach full stroke at 15 psi. The reading can be judged by the manufacturer’s recommendation.

Check the internal condition of the turbocharger.

(1) Check the mechanical movement of the waste bypass valve.

(2) Rotate the pressurized gas impeller to check for sticking, dragging and other undesirable conditions.

(3) Check the inside of the housing for oil and dust and clean accordingly.

(4) Check the compressor oil seal for damage or leakage, and replace it as appropriate.

(5) Check the radial and axial clearances of the turbocharger main shaft according to the maintenance manual. Check journal bearing clearance. Use a micrometer to check the journal bearings. The micrometer is fixed to a position where it can contact the turbocharger main shaft between the two bearings, and then the service technician moves the shaft up and down from the compressor or turbine end. As the shaft is moved, the micrometer reads the clearance or wear of the journal bearing. The reading is compared to the manufacturer’s recommended clearance value. If the clearance value is out of specification, replace the journal bearing.

(6) Check the clearance of the thrust bearing. Use a micrometer to check the clearance of the thrust bearing. With the micrometer fixed to the end of the turbocharger spindle, move the shaft back and forth along its axis to determine the clearance of the thrust bearing. Compare the readings with the manufacturer’s recommended specification values. If the clearance value is out of specification, replace the thrust bearing.
