Some Suggestions on Correctly Arranging the Engine Room of Diesel Generator Sets

Except for special configurations such as mobile trailer models, silent diesel generator sets, and generator sets with rain-proof sheds, which do not need to be equipped with a diesel generator room, ordinary open-frame diesel generator sets generally require a generator room. From the plane layout, ventilation, smoke exhaust and noise reduction of the diesel generator room, I will introduce some practical suggestions for you, hoping to be helpful to the majority of users.

Except for special configurations such as mobile trailer models, silent diesel generator sets, and generator sets with rain-proof sheds, which do not need to be equipped with a diesel generator room, ordinary open-frame diesel generator sets generally require a generator room. From the plane layout, ventilation, smoke exhaust and noise reduction of the diesel generator room, I will introduce some practical suggestions for you, hoping to be helpful to the majority of users.

1. The layout of the machine room

When choosing the plane position of the diesel generator room, in order to facilitate wiring and reduce the loss of materials and electric energy, Tingbo Electric recommends that users should arrange the diesel generator room as close as possible to the power transformation and distribution room, which is also easy to manage. If conditions permit, the computer room is best located on the first floor, which is convenient for ventilation, heat dissipation, and smoke exhaust. However, in high-rise buildings and large and medium-sized commercial buildings, the first floor is usually used as a commercial room, and the computer room is often located in the basement. The following points should be noted when choosing the location of the computer room:

1. The computer room should have one side against the outer wall, so that the ventilation and smoke exhaust of the equipment are easier to handle.

2. The hoisting, handling and maintenance convenience of the unit should be fully considered. It is generally recommended to use the access channel of the parking garage as the transportation channel for the diesel generator set.

3. Avoid damp places, do not set the machine room under or next to places where water often accumulates such as toilets, bathrooms, pools, etc., to avoid the operation of the unit due to toilet maintenance or floor seepage.

2. The ventilation method of the machine room

The diesel generator set and the exhaust pipe will emit heat when the unit is running, which will increase the temperature of the engine room. If the temperature rises to a certain extent, the performance of the diesel generator set will be affected. Therefore, the user must take corresponding measures to ensure the cooling of the unit. When there are enough air intake and exhaust channels, a closed water circulation and air-cooled integral unit is generally used. Another method is to place the exhaust fan and heat pipe separately outside the unit, separate from the main body of the unit, and separate the outdoor unit. The cooling pipe is connected with the water pipe of the diesel engine.

3. Smoke exhaust treatment in the machine room

When designing the exhaust system of diesel generator room, the following points should be paid attention to:

1. Minimize the back pressure of the exhaust system, and at the same time, the shorter and straighter the exhaust pipe is, the better, because the increase of exhaust gas resistance will lead to a decrease in the power of the diesel engine and an increase in the temperature rise.

2. The smoke exhaust pipe should be insulated to reduce burns and reduce heat radiation to increase the temperature of the machine room.

3. A muffler should be installed to reduce noise.

4. the noise control of the computer room

When a diesel generator set is running, it usually produces a certain amount of noise. The user should take necessary noise reduction measures, otherwise the noise from the operation of the unit will pollute the surrounding environment. Here are four ways to control noise:

1. Reduce exhaust noise: exhaust noise is the main noise source of the unit, which is characterized by high noise level, fast exhaust speed, and difficult control. The use of a special impedance-type composite muffler can generally reduce exhaust noise by 40-60db(a).

2. Reduce the noise of the axial flow fan: When reducing the noise of the cooling fan of the generator set, two issues must be considered, one is the allowable pressure loss of the exhaust passage. The second is the required amount of noise reduction. For the above two points, resistive chip mufflers can be selected.

3. Sound insulation of the machine room: After the exhaust noise of the unit and the noise of the cooling fan are reduced, the remaining main noise sources are the mechanical noise and combustion noise of the diesel engine. The method used is to remove all windows except the observation window, and at the same time, all holes and holes should be tightly sealed, and the sound insulation of the brick wall should be more than 40db(a). The doors and windows of the computer room are fireproof and soundproof.

4. Sound absorption treatment. According to the spectral characteristics of the generator set, the perforated plate resonance sound absorption structure is used to absorb the sound of the five walls in the machine room except the main surface.
