Diesel generator set backfire causes and solutions

Tempering, in layman’s terms, means that in the cylinder, after the piston has done its job well, the exhaust gases that have been burned are to be exhausted from the exhaust pipe. But due to some fault, the exhaust valve has been closed and the exhaust can’t be discharged, or the exhaust is too late. Then the exhaust gas will be discharged from the cylinder head, crankcase, carburetor, throttle and other places of the individual cylinder, which is often referred to as “backflow” or generator backfire.

Understanding the working principle of diesel generator sets should know that the normal operation of diesel generator sets are divided into four steps: intake, compression, work and exhaust. Tempering, in layman’s terms, means that in the cylinder, after the piston has done its job, the burned exhaust gas should be discharged from the exhaust pipe. But due to some kind of fault, the exhaust valve has closed and the exhaust can’t be expelled, or the exhaust is too late. Then the exhaust gas from the cylinder head, crankcase, carburetor, throttle and other places of the individual cylinder discharge, which is often called “backflow” or generator backfire. Backfire occurs in all periods of the unit’s operation, there is no obvious signs before it occurs, resulting in a sudden shutdown of the diesel generator set, seriously affecting the operation of the unit.

Diesel generator set mixture is too rich is the main cause of backfire, in addition to incorrect ignition time, valve adjustment screws loose, cylinder head cracks, etc. may cause backfire failure, so how do users solve the backfire problem?

1. As the natural gas diesel generator set backfire is accidental and destructive, it is easy to cause damage to the mixer diaphragm of the diesel generator set, the unit suddenly stops, and the tempering phenomenon cannot be controlled and observed. Analyzing the damage of the diaphragm, it is found that the diaphragm is positioned in a problematic way, and is only fastened by 6 screws, to make the diaphragm unevenly stressed and easily loosened and damaged. In this regard, the method of gluing the diaphragm to the mixer is proposed, so that the edge of the diaphragm is stressed as a whole, so that it is not easy to damage. The glued diaphragm is durable, and when a backfire is found, the backfire will diminish or disappear as soon as the compressor is unloaded. Stronger backfires can be stopped directly, so as to gain time for observation and adjustment. 2.

2. mixture concentration adjustment can effectively avoid the occurrence of backfire phenomenon, in adjusting the mixture concentration, first of all, the mixer load adjusting bolt screw out 5 turns, to be loaded diesel generator set, gradually screw into both sides of the load adjusting screw, to the diesel generator set mixer pressure gauge pointer to increase the side of the swing, and then screw out half a turn.

The tempering problem in the operation of the diesel generator set is unpredictable, so in order to ensure the normal operation of the unit, the user should do a good job of repair and maintenance of the diesel generator set in a timely manner, but also to master certain maintenance methods in order to deal with the critical moment in a timely manner.
